Washington Post; November 20, 2017; Video Story Reporting by Amy Wong

In January of 2017, a cold case team spearheaded by former FBI agents won an FOIA suit against their former Bureau for access to the closed 1971 D.B. Cooper file. In a recent monthly batch from the archived records, a filed-away letter from the alleged hijacker was discovered.

The team organizer, Thomas J. Colbert, believes it was withheld for 46 years because the agents knew it was authentic and the revelation of his escape would be embarrassing.
